Being Biracial

Being Biracial is a group that meets weekly and centers around the distinct experiences of having biracial heritage. The group offers a space for group members to explore how their racial identity has been shaped. Group members are encouraged to consider how various aspects of identity and social context (e.g., ethnic identities, language(s), family culture, region, socioeconomic status, politics, physical appearance, social validation/invalidation, and more) impact their sense of self and sense of belonging.

The group was created and is facilitated by Dr. Andrea DePetris who is a multicultural psychology specialist. Dr. DePetris has over ten years of experience working with racially and ethnically diverse clients in community mental health clinics, veteran affairs hospitals, and college counseling centers. She has taught courses in multicultural psychology at the University of Connecticut and was the Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion at Yale Health, Mental Health & Counseling. Her research has focused on mental health disparities, the impacts of experiencing racial discrimination, and biracial identity development.
